CM 10.42: hl2.exe - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error

Postby Stan » 03 Oct 2010, 16:11

Hello,

unfortunately I cannot play Half-Life 2 - Episode 1 anymore, after the first 30-60 Minutes.

None of my Savegames work, always the same Error. Starting a "New Game" ends up in the same Error.
It all began after I left the whole game (I died) and wanted to load the last Savegame, 10-20 minutes later.
I went through the whole "Checklist" for technical help, all requirements are met.

- Windows 7 Professional 64bit (two weeks old installation)
- Intel Core i7-950
- Nvidia GeForce 470
- 6GB RAM
- Running and fully updated Steam
- Unlocked HL2 + EP1 + EP2 (with 1-3 Savegames) + SDKs (because I own the "Steam-Version")
- Selected Models in Character Pimper (the one I want to be changed (HD) + the one I want to be unchanged (standard))

I would be glad, anyone can help. Searching the Internet including this forum did not give any answers.

Thanks and Greetings,
Stan

Flashlight causes Error!?

Postby Stan » 16 Oct 2010, 17:55

Is there really nobody who can help?

I reinstalled the cinematicmod another time. Because of that I checked my Savegames for the "normal" Hl2/Ep1/Ep2 and curiously, my Savegames of EP2 were gone, so I made some new.

And till now, everything worked well, but near the same point, a bit earlier now, I get the same Error:
I ended the game, 'cause I got interrupted by my brother. 10-20 minutes later I started the game again and wanted to load the last Savegame, activated the Flashlight, Error.
However, this time it only occurs, when I activate the flashlight. (?) What does this mean?

Thanks,
Stan

Thanks for reply! Beside the fact that those users own a much weaker System and even talk about a 32bit OS, I tried to set the Texture-Details to "medium" et voilà, Flashlight on but no crash. I even could set the Texture-Details back to "high" and "very high" without leaving the game and using the Flashlight the game does not crash.
BUT, start playing the game without setting the Texture-Details to "medium" first and trying to play with high textures from beginning, the game crashes with the mentioned error when using the flashlight . . . (?)

I don't know how long I can play without crashing using this "trick" (will try it), but shouldn't it work without such gambling.

Thanks for help,
Stan

Luckily this ain't doom 3, where you have to use flashlight all the time and that's makes game 4 times longer.

I think that maybe you have something to do with small videocard memory, because you have plenty of ram. But maybe not, because as I can see on nvidia page 470 comes with 1.2gb ram.

Let's just wait for CM10.90 :)

I am :)

Ok, let's wait for 10.90. :) I would be glad it solves my problem, really like this mod. Can I read something about the upcoming changes?

Thanks,
Stan

I had same problem. But I found resolution. Try go offline on steam and run the game. Me it works.

Hey, I tried it out, but it does not help. And you have exactly the same Error under identical circumstances? Strange.

Greetings,
Stan

EDIT: Seems you overlooked tha fact, that I am talking about 10.42, not 10.90.
And I am not sure using 10.90, seems not to run better regarding my "Runtime Error", so I have to wait for a SDK 2009 Update?

Try the mod without steam running (not just offline mode)

CM 10.90 does not want me to start Steam first? Regarding to CM 10.42 I don't know how to run it without steam unless I shut it down with the Task-Manager, however in this case the game stops working while loading a savegame, so no use in that.

Just in case I want to give it a try with 10.90, i should unistall 10.42 an make a whole new and clean installition, right? :)

Thanks,
Stan

EDIT: By the way, thanks for this great Mod, couldn't enjoy much of it yet, but so far it looks and feels really great. (thumb_2) (thumb_1)
