Freaking Bloom

Postby tony_almeida » 22 Jul 2012, 14:39

Alright everyone Cinematic mod is one of the greatest and most powerful mod in history of games.
But there is one big problem with this mod.
Bloom
So much bloom.
Freaking so much bloom everywhere.
It is unrealistic and eye-fucking.

Lets see the recommended bloom mod called dreamy
Image

I am terribly sorry but this is pure fucking bullshit.
I cannot believe one of the greatest modders FAKEFACTORY keep making this mistake.
You could say that you can decrease it.
Alright lets lower it to slightly.

Image

Well as you see its pretty fucking same.
Alright lets shut it down

Image

As you see its not about bloom settings in konfigurator.
Its about designing of maps.
If you think that the lighting is realistic you should go to see a doctor for your eyes.
Or you may get away the computer and go outside take fresh air for a while.

Lets shut down hdr and bloom on Half Life settings panel

Image

Now it seems balanced, natural and realistic, but still it has to be reduced like %15 or something.
And the problem is whatever you do hdr will be enabled after you restart game.

Lets see it in real life

Image

Well I am not an good at photo editing, sorry.
I hope not only FAKEFACTORY but all game developers and modders use bloom more wisely.
Regards...

Dude, you are comparing street lights to construction lights aiming straight at your eyes. in real life, you can't even look at them without getting blind in 1 minute. it's comparable to looking at the sun. Also, you're eyes see light diffrend then camera's do, so you're pictures have very little value.

If you want it realistic, FAKEFACTORY should make the light's even brighter + add something that would get Gorden to move his hand in a way to stop the light from going in his eye.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js8ZoKvDVY8

that is the best video i could find showing the effect of a camera looking straight into a construction light.

Okay, I'll try not to be rude, if possible. But to put it bluntly, you are wrong! And I signed up to these forums just to tell you this!

That light source is called a "flood light", and last time I checked when you look right in to one it almost sends you blind, like looking in to the sun, which is also why you turn your cars flood lights down when passing someone at night because of how blinding it is. Also that welding, there is a reason they wear a mask with pitch black eye cover on it.

I mean really, talking about not going out in to the real world, jeez, you are the prime candidate for that here. I mean yeah, sure your picture of lights from 100m away really does compare to the flood light in game that is blasting light in to your face from 2m away...

And since we are posting up pictures.

Low quality pictures I know, but my point still stands.

You are the person with issues mate. You are making a fool out of yourself right now.

And also, what are my qualifications?

I get out in to the real world. CHECK
I studied a Diploma in Visual Arts & Craft. CHECK

We done? Okay, we’re done. (thumb_2)

Alright I will try to be not rude.
First of all,
I dont fucking care even a little bit of your qualifications.
You dont have to be a football player to see if it's foul or not
A referee or even audience could see better than a football player for some situations.
Or you dont have to be a horse to ride a horse.
You don't have to be a doctor to see if you're fat or not.
Since you are not going outside much, I picked this example especially for you.
And yea, this is not a complex situation that requires high qualifications.
To distinguish what is real or not, you dont have to be Einstein.
Even Einstein could make mistakes; since you are not Enstein, dont fucking waste your time to explain your qualifications.
Me, I am just a student of computer science.
Like I said, I dont fucking care.

Image
This picture is real, hell yeah.
I mean really, there is nothing wrong to boost bloom for this kind of situation or something.

Image
I dont know what the f*ck is this crap.
But it is certainly not a standard street light or something.
Maybe a very and very high power light, maybe a low quality photo machine, maybe an edited photo with photoshop, gimp or something.
But something is not normal in here.
So proving something with this photo is pretty ridiculous.

Image
This is not something what human beings see.
This is something what photo-machines see.

A healty human can recognize objects behind light, if the light source is not so powerful.
That is why FBI Helicopters use very powerful lights, to make people blind temporary.
But it is just for FBI Helicopters, you dont get blind when you're looking street lights or car lights.
And you can see the objects behing lights.
Dont fucking give another example about sun. Cuz sun is in category of very powerful lights.
Most of other lights are not.

I am not saying that bloom is completely unnecesseary piece of bullshit.
I am just saying about using bloom more wisely, if you look at the last sentence of my first post.

Image
This is a pretty famous picture.
Probably you had saw it before.
It tells the difference between photography & game, machine & human.
Some game developers agree that people starting to use bloom unwisely.
This is just what i try to remind, nothing more.

You signed up to this forum just to tell me this.
Haha i liked it. (thumb_1)
But off the record; you just proved that you have some issues.

Honestly couldn't give a f*ck but I just wanted to point out that that's not supposed to be a street light, its a floodlight. So comparing the massive bloom eradiating from it to a street light is understandably why you think it's fake or edited. Street lights are not high powered like a flood light is and when you are standing 2m away from a flood light you will get blinded. Yes I agree the effect is over the top and not very realistic since in real life you wouldn't be able to stare at it or adjust to it's brightness but what you are saying is wrong.

Also @Masterzone, seriously I wouldn't call going outside frequently or having a diploma in visual and arts and craft real "Qualifications" in lighting. But I agree wth the rest of what you are saying.

I didnt say it's fake or edited.
I just told possibilities and flood light was one of.
And it was even more for a flood light
What you call is "flood light" or I call that "powerful light"
Image
the bigger one is there
http://lumiteclighting.com/productdownl ... ight-3.JPG
There is a flood light example.
Some bloom out there but as you see it's not eye-fucking and it doesnt prevent to see objects.
I have to remind that this is only a photo-machine. A human eye could see objects even better.
Image
if anyone claims that lighting of the picture is realistic, then he/she got some serious issues.
not only for eyes, it includes mind.

If you're talking about a flood light like this
Image
then yes, the lighting is pretty realistic. (thumb_1)
